Hey friends,

Welcome to Cozy Sunday Mornings! A blog where you can come to kick your feet up, unwind and feel the stress of the day melt away. We live in a very fast paced, technologically advanced world and it seems everyone is constantly on go mode. It seems no one knows what the meaning of rest is and if they do, they’re purposely ignoring it in order to win some imaginary race that society tells us we’re apart of.
I can’t lie, at one point in time I used to be of the mindset that I always have to be busy doing something because that somehow proved that I was productive. That was not always the case. Sure, being busy can also mean you’re getting things done; however, it’s the constant need of having to do something every waking hour that’s the unhealthy part.
Personally, I have come to appreciate a slower way of living and no one on this planet can force me into hustling and bustling my life away, God forbid. Don’t get me wrong, we all need some excitement; however, the constant need to be “on”, be on the go and always having people around can be very exhausting, especially for an introvert like myself.
In my first official post, I will be sharing with you 5 reasons why it’s okay to live a slow life especially in this day and age we’re living in.
- Less stress and Anxiety: If anyone knows anything about stress and anxiety that’ll be me because a few years ago, those two combined were slowly suffocating me. I thank God for pulling me out of the depths of that hole and renewing me. A life constantly on the go comes with increasing levels of stress and anxiety and that does not benefit anyone. A slower, more predictable life often leads to lower stress levels and less anxiety, fostering better mental and physical health.
- Deeper Relationships: Do you know that one friend or family member who is always busy and never has time for anyone.? or maybe you’re that person? I want to tell you to stop, take a deep breath and just let yourself be in this present moment. Work, money, career etc, all these things will be here long after we’re gone; however, our loved ones, just like us are not on earth forever. Take the time today to reach out to someone you’ve been meaning to catch up with. By avoiding constant busyness, you can invest more time and energy into nurturing meaningful, deeper relationships with family and friends.
- Greater Contentment: Unfortunately, we live in a world where the narrative of “having more”, “the grind don’t stop”, “you’ll sleep when you’re dead” is being pushed everyday and again that is not a healthy way to love your life. Furthermore, you cannot sleep if you’re dead. Life is meant to be lived and enjoyed, not just work, work, work and not enjoy the fruits of your labour. Learn how to be grateful for what you do have. Learn how to appreciate and live in your answered prayers. More often than not we pray for things and when God blesses us with said thing we don’t stop and enjoy it. Living with this attitude will always have you seeking the next best thing. Embracing simplicity can lead to greater contentment and satisfaction with life, as you focus on appreciating what you have rather than constantly seeking new experiences.
- Increased Creativity: A quiet, routine life can provide the mental space needed for creativity to flourish, allowing you to explore hobbies and interests more deeply. Ever since adopting a slower pace of life, I’ve experienced creativity in a way I never had before. It’s an exhilarating feeling, being able to unleash the parts of yourself that brings you peace and untainted joy. I didn’t think I had it in me to start a YouTube channel but I did and I am beyond proud of myself. Take a moment to think about something that you’ve been wanting to try or make a list and slowly work your way through it. You never know what magic you’ll create by just letting yourself slow down, get inspired and create.
- Better Self-Care: Rest is MANDATORY. Read that again. Rest is not an option as much as society tries to make it seem like it is. Our bodies and minds need rest in order to keep us healthy and kicking. With fewer distractions and commitments, you can prioritize self-care, ensuring you have the time to rest, reflect, and rejuvenate.
I truly hope you take the time to prioritize yourself in every way possible. Don’t let society and other people rush you into an early grave, matter of fact I rebuke that in Jesus’ mighty name. Learn to stop and smell the roses, take in your surroundings, feel the sun on your skin, take deep breaths, be in the present and enjoy the simple things life has to offer because there’s quite a bit of it.
I hope you enjoyed reading this post and would love it if you leave me a comment saying hi and what do you do in order to slow down? Thanks for stopping by and catch you in the next one😊
X, Abi❤︎
