At the time of writing this, we are knee deep in a winter storm, ICE has killed yet another person, celebrities are being exposed, people are realizing that their fave influencers aren’t really “couple golas”, it’s snowing in the Sahara desert, inflation is crippling, debt is higher than ever and America is falling apart faster than we can blink.

It’s quite a lot of not so good things happening in the world and it’s heavy. If we’re not careful that heaviness can become too much too quickly. But, I think it already has. I understand the need to stay in the loop of what’s happening around us and in the world but it can be and is very overwhelming, especially with the current political climate.

I’m here to remind you that you do not need to stay connected 24/7 to every little thing that’s hapenning. Your mind is probably screaming at you for a much needed break. So today, I’m going to share with you a handful of ways that you can take care of and be gentle with yourself.

  • No News” Window: Personally, I don’t watch the news and haven’t for a coupl years now. I sometimes come across news headlines while browsing YouTube and will immediately click “don’t recommend channel”. If I really need to know something my husband will let me know. It’s okay to not be plugged in 24/7 but if you still want to be abreast of what’s happening you can carve out 15 mins or so to check in and then check out.
  • Change Your Consumption Diet: These days consumption is not only regarded to shopping but also to what you watch, listen and read. If all you’re doing is consuming news and negatuve content, it will leave a bitter taste. Try switching it up. There are tons of cozy, anxiety reducing content out there. Curate your feed as much as possible (Although ads have taken over). Read a good non-fiction book or listen to instrumentals.
  • Have A Safe Routine: This means you can curate your life the way you see fit. Curate it in ways that bring you peace, rest and joy. Remove anything that threatens your sanity.
  • Hands-on Activities: Instead of doomscrolling, how about trying a new hobby or even picking up an old, tried and true one. Puzzles, gameboards, knitting, gardening etc are things that calm your nervous system.
  • Read the bible: I believe in the Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ and I know that hiding in His word (bible) helps me to combat anxiety, stress or any other negative emotion. It helps you to experience Christ given peace and joy that this crazy world cnnot give.

These are just a few things you can do to break up the monotany of doom and gloom that seems to be permeating the world these days.

Until next time, Abi🤎
